Wireless charging is convenient, but it’s generally slower than powering up with a cable. Now it looks like Oppo is trying to help close the gap with its upcoming 40W AirVOOC wireless charger.

A listing for the new device popped up on the website of the Wireless Power Consortium, the global group that develops the Qi standard. While the charger’s output isn’t as high as Oppo’s existing 65W wired charger, it’s still the highest we’ve seen in any wireless charger. This includes the Warp Charge 30 Wireless charger that sister brand OnePlus is set to launch soon, although OnePlus fast charging has traditionally been based on VOOC. While Xiaomi did show off a 40W wireless charging solution last month, that has yet to be announced as an actual product.
Oppo is expected to debut AirVOOC next Monday, along with the Ace2 smartphone. The company has already said it’ll introduce “real flash charging in all environments.” On Tuesday, Oppo executive Brian Shen also teased on Weibo, “Who will be the first to mass produce and sell 40W wireless chargers?”
