Israel now just a warmonger

I would like to express my total disgust with the Israeli Government for its cynical disregard for innocent lives in shelling a United Nations compound.

The death toll of Israeli military operations in Lebanon has risen to 147 even as I write, almost all civilians. But I am convinced this figure could have been mitigated because the Israelis have technologically advanced military hardware (subsidised, if not donated, by the Americans) which should enable them to strike with precision against Hezbollah.

The heavy-handed, indiscriminate nature of the attacks is solely intended to generate fear in the Hezbollah ranks.

I am sorely disappointed in Prime Minister Shimon Peres, who vowed to carry on the late Yitzhak Rabin's noble and brave peace policy. Instead, he lacks the strength to stand against the more Zionist elements in Israel.

Installed as the main military power in the Middle East by the Americans, Israel has been transformed from victim to warmonger. Israel, to me, now stands for the oppression of Arabs and ruthless military force.

The source of the conflict is, of course, the dispute over the land itself. I'm sure that to atheists like myself, the Israelis' biblical claim to their land is only as convincing as the Palestinians'. From now on I will not have any sympathy for the Israelis.
