Party to propose checks on PLA garrison

The Democratic Party is to propose checks and balances on the People's Liberation Army garrison in Hong Kong.

Suggestions will come in its draft political platform for the alternative chief executive election.

Core member and legislator Cheung Man-kwong said members were preparing the first draft of the platform.

Subjects for the draft included proposed relations between the central Government and Special Administrative Region and suggesting the future role the chief executive should play between the two.

'The platform will also propose a mechanism for checks . . . on the parties not under the jurisdiction of Hong Kong, such as the future PLA garrison or the National People's Congress,' he said, adding the Legislative Council had not debated these issues.

With the nomination period within the party ending on Monday, legislator Szeto Wah is the only candidate for the mock chief executive election.
