Some of the region's top media bosses will discuss satellite and broadcasting investment opportunities in member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations at a television conference in Hong Kong next month.

It will be held at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel on February 19 and 20 and the American company, Kagan World Media, hopes to attract about 250 top managers. The 1997 Asia-Pacific Multi-channel TV Summit will feature round-table discussions with six key panellists from different sectors of the industry.

Among the panellist Kagan has confirmed are Ganesh Basawapatna, head of Encore International, Robert Chua of CETV and Peter Gontha of Indovision. In addition there will be representatives from AsiaSat, Intelsat, PanAmSat, Thaicom Shinawatra and Scientific Atlanta.

Jeffrey Rago, associate analyst for Kagan World Media Asia-Pacific, said: 'We want the panellists to discuss where they think investment is profitable, lucrative or feasible and how much investment is needed to finance the fundamentals of a new operation. 'We will also be asking what they think of the state of the infrastructure in many of these countries and whether it is feasible to put in a system.' Mr Rago said the summit would also discuss the feasibility of operating in China. A representative from China's Ministry of Radio, Film and Television has been invited to deliver the keynote speech and officials are awaiting confirmation.
