Cuba is expanding its ports and inviting foreign investment in free-trade zones in a bid to become a transshipment hub for goods among European, Canadian and Latin American countries, according to Cuban officials.

Barred from trading with the US by a 35-year-old embargo, Cuba aimed to become a niche port for non-US trade with Latin America and the Caribbean, the official said.
