Corruption, pollution and politics 'main concerns'
Internet surfers are most concerned with corruption, environmental protection and political reform among issues discussed at the NPC and Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), a survey said.
The continuing poll by the Yangcheng Evening Post found that, up to yesterday, 92 per cent of Net surfers who responded were 'interested' or 'very interested' in news from the two conferences.
Eighty per cent of respondents were most concerned by rampant corruption, the paper said.
Although the authorities have not talked of political reform for some time, the paper said it was a hot issue, sharing second spot with pollution, each attracting the concern of 64 per cent of Net users.
Sixty per cent of respondents said they cared about plans to reform state-owned enterprises which were discussed in detail in Premier Zhu's Government Work Report.
More than half of those surveyed were worried about social order - 58 per cent - and unemployment - 51 per cent.
Despite widespread overseas concern, only 49 per cent cared whether the yuan would be devalued.
Despite widespread coverage in the state media, more than six per cent of 248 people questioned did not know about the two meetings or declined to answer the question.
The paper said 59 per cent of those who took part were civil servants or white-collar workers in state-owned enterprises. Eighteen per cent were students.
