'Pressured' pupil's suicide bid
A 17-year-old schoolboy who complained of being under pressure at school injected a mixture of bleach and detergent into his left arm in a suicide bid in Ho Man Tin yesterday.
The student at Lai King Catholic Secondary School called 999 after he used a syringe to inject the mixture in his 17th-floor apartment in Oi Man Estate, at about 10am. He was alone at home at the time.
He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where he was last night in a stable condition.
Principal Francis Wong Bing-kwan said the school had offered special care to the student and tried to ensure he was under no pressure after he returned on March 1.
He said the schoolboy had been admitted to Kwai Chung Hospital in December with a mental problem and was discharged three weeks ago.
