Just the ticket

OK, we know this City Contemporary Dance Company show is not on until later this month but it sounds so bizarre and fabulous (and that has very little to do with its tantalising title) this column must reveal some of the details now. Billed by the company as an innovative hybrid of dance, strip tease, fashion show and video installation, Strip Teaser is all about beautifully designed clothes and how to take them off on stage.

'It certainly is different,' CCDC's assistant marketing manager Kevin Wong Kin-wang admits. The idea is that both catwalk and dance shows are about performances and it makes sense to bring the two together. Taking part at the City Hall Concert Hall on June 23-24 at 8pm (tickets $100-$150 from Urbtix) are fashion designers Silvio Chan, Henry Lau, Ruby Li and Pacino Wan and seven choreographers, including Daniel Yeung, Yeung Wai-mei and Abby Chan Man-yee. Their brief is simple: get your clothes off. Abby Chan's piece, for instance, asks whether people are what they wear and Lau's creation is all leather and PVC rubber. Rest assured this column will be right up there on the front row in the interest of art.

No Chinese opera lover should miss the one-off performance by the Hon Fung Cantonese opera Institute on June 11. With an impressive line-up that consists of veterans Man Chin-shui, Yuen Siu-fai, Leung Hon-wai, Leung Siu-sum and Yam Bing-yee, Tradition and Modernity is part of this year's Yuen Long Theatre Opening Arts Festival. The show, which lasts a whopping three hours, will feature eight famous arias from the Cantonese opera repertoire performed in three styles: guqiang, nanyin and traditional Cantonese operatic songs. These traditional performances remain extremely popular in Hong Kong (especially in the New Territories) and tickets do tend to sell fast, so you are advised to book early. Visit www.yp.com.hk/honfungopera for more information.

Those of you who jammed the House of Teresa Teng Tour booking hotline last week will be glad to know there are tickets left for her tribute concerts in Tsuen Wan Town Hall Auditorium tonight, Tai Po Civic Centre Auditorium tomorrow and on Sunday at North District Town Hall Auditorium. All shows start at 8pm. Call Urbtix. Artists singing her popular hits will be Tsui Wai-fun, Cheung Fung and Lee Lick.

Spring-time Stage Productions' latest show Noises Off kicks off this week and will run until the end of this month (just how many local theatres can boast of a run that lasts more than three days? Probably none). A major production in every sense, this adaptation of Michael Frayn's farce stars veteran composer and comedian James Wong and award-winning actress Lo Koon-lan (cast pictured). Directed by Chung King-fai. Not to be missed. Until July 2. Tickets: $140-$330. Urbtix. Tel: 2734 9009.
