Bullish behaviour

You don't have to go to Spain to see bullfighting. Just head off to South Korea. The annual Bullfighting Festival will be held in Cheongdo, south of Seoul, later this month, but there won't be any matadors. Bulls will fight each other, and there is no time limit. Each contest ends either when one of the bulls has taken so much punishment it can't go on, or runs away.

More than 100 bulls will fight from March 24-28, and national pride will be at stake when Korean bulls lock horns with beasts from Japan weighing more than 700 kilograms. There will also be a rodeo.

The festival was launched in 1998 and has become so popular that a bullfighting arena to seat 10,000 is being built, and will open next year.

For more information, contact the Korea National Tourism Organisation in Hong Kong, room 4203, Lippo Centre, Tower One, Admiralty. Tel 2523 8065, fax 2845 0765.
