What The Critics Say

Spy Game

A suspense thriller about a CIA agent (Robert Redford) who is about to retire when he discovers one of his proteges (Brad Pitt) has been captured by the Chinese and is to be executed in 24 hours. Also starring Catherine McCormack, Stephen Dillane, Larry Bryggman and Marianne Jean-Baptiste.

Kirk Honeycutt

The Hollywood Reporter

'Achieving a satisfying blend of an edge-of-your-seat thriller with a story of friendship and loyalty and a sobering inquiry into what it means to be a spy, Spy Game is a strong effort on everyone's part. The strength of the film lies in the character work by the actors. Everyone is quick off the mark as many plot lines unfold and impressions must be made fast.'

Leah Rozen

People

'Given current events, one would think Spy Game might be off-putting, but it works surprisingly well. This is no jingoistic, mindlessly pro-American drama. The film makes it amply clear that the deadly tasks are never pretty and require constant moral compromises.'

Kenneth Turan

Los Angeles Times

'Saddled with fake, wised-up dialogue of the 'you're gonna make a beautiful corpse' variety, the film is also hampered by its fragmented narrative line and miscalculations involving that high-profile casting. Spy Game plays more like a haphazard short-story collection than an involving and cohesive novel.'
