Zhou Nan sends condolences

THE head of the Hong Kong branch of Xinhua (the New China News Agency), Zhou Nan, has sent his condolences to the Shenzhen Municipal Government, expressing sympathy to the victims of the blasts.

Xinhua also thanked the British administration for its assistance after the blasts. Xinhua had asked for the assistance through the Government's Political Adviser's Office on Thursday night.

The agency also said the people of Hong Kong had expressed great concern over the explosions, and many had called offering to help in relief work.

''They have fully expressed their feelings towards compatriots on the mainland,'' Xinhua said.

Condolences were also offered to the families of the victims, including those who lost their lives rescuing others and state property.

Zhu Yucheng, a deputy director of Xinhua's Hong Kong branch, led a group of officials to Shenzhen yesterday morning to visit the victims.
