Double success for listings chief

Marvin Cheung becomes chairman of both mainboard and GEM committees

Marvin Cheung Kin-tung, former head of international accounting firm KPMG's Hong Kong office, has been named head of both committees which approve new listings in Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing said yesterday that Mr Cheung had been re-appointed as chairman of the main board listing committee and would also become chairman of the Growth Enterprise Market (GEM) listing committee.

Lo Ka-shui resigned as GEM listing committee chairman last month when registering his opposition to the government plan that would see the exchange's frontline regulator role transferred to the Securities and Futures Commission.

Mr Cheung has been main board listing committee chairman since January, replacing Mr Thaddeus Beczak, deputy chairman of SCMP Group.

There is speculation among brokers that Mr Cheung may replace Charles Lee Yeh-kwong as chairman of the exchange, who wants to retire.

Mr Cheung is among the 21 identical members of both listing committees for the main board and GEM. Four people are appointed as members of the main board but not the GEM. Lawyer Moses Cheng Mo-chi was appointed deputy chairman of both committees.

Other members included brokers Henry Cheung Yin-chew, Stephen Hui Chiu-chung, Peter Wong Shiu-hoi; accountants David Sun Tak-kei, Ernest Ip, Roger Best and Clarson Tong; and lawyers Lee Wong Pui-ling and David Stannard.

Listed companies' representatives appointed as members of both committees include CLP Holdings' executive director Peter Tse, Hsin Chong Construction Group deputy chairman Yeh V-nee, and Dickson Concepts (International) executive director Raymond Lee.
