Does Lan Kwai Fong tycoon Allan Zeman have a clone? The day after we reported the billionaire has been spending Sars-time outside Hong Kong, readers have reported Zeman sightings in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Thailand and naturally, Lan Kwai Fong. He has also been spotted on CNN commenting on Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa's handling of the health crisis. (His view? 'A slow start, but very strong finish.')
Can it be the same person? We called his office.
Turns out Zeman was in Los Angeles with his friend Joel Silver (The Matrix producer) to begin production on the sequel to their last movie Dungeons & Dragons. (Zeman bought the film rights to the game several years ago). He is also working on another movie, a version of hit US novel The Bell Witch (Gary Oldman is said to be in the frame).
A few days later he was indeed in Las Vegas attending a board meeting with his casino partner Steve Wynn. Apparently, their plans for Macau's renaissance as a family gaming centre are well under way and construction will begin in the next few months.
Then, a few days ago, he was spotted making sure road works in Lan Kwai Fong inconvenienced his customers as little as possible. And on Friday, when we tried to track him down, we were told he was already back in Phuket overseeing his new US$8 million (HK$62.5 million) villa and property company.
