Boy, 11, fights for life after head-on crash

An 11-year-old boy was fighting for his life and his 14-year-old sister and mother were in a serious condition in hospital last night after the family's car crashed in Tseung Kwan O.

The car, driven by the boy's father, reportedly veered into the wrong lane and collided head-on with another car.

The family was travelling in the Kowloon-bound lane of Tai Au Mun Road when the crash happened just before 11pm on Monday.

As the vehicle was approaching Po Toi O, it reportedly crossed the opposite lane where it collided head-on with a car driven by a 59-year-old man. All those involved were injured and taken to Tseung Kwan O Hospital.

Last night the boy was listed in a critical condition while his eldest sister and 34-year-old mother were in serious condition. His 38-yearold father was discharged against medical advice after receiving treatment.

Police said the boy's father passed a breathalyser test. The other driver, who was admitted in a stable condition, was not fit to give a breathalyser test.

Officers from the accident investigation unit of the Kowloon East traffic unit are investigating the incident.

In two separate accidents in Sheung Shui early yesterday, two cars veered out of control on the same road and slammed into trees within 10 minutes of each other.

The first crash happened just after 1.30am when a car travelling along the Sheung Shui-bound lane of Fan Kam Road near Tai Shek Wu reportedly swerved to avoid a dog then hit a tree. Its male driver and his male passengers, both aged 22, were injured and treated at North District Hospital.

About 10 minutes later, a car travelling in the Yuen Long-bound lane of Fan Kam Road crashed near a golf club. Its 29-year-old driver and a passenger, 24, were also treated at North District Hospital.
