Lying game provides a good laugh

Agatha Ngai

Lying can be a vital social skill, but can have disastrous consequences if you do it for an evil purpose. The best approach, I suggest, is not to lie at all but turn it into a source of fun. We have found some hilarious jokes about lies from the internet. Let's have a good laugh about the lying game.

You should not lie

One day after school, a teacher came upon a group of teenage students on the lawn. The boys were squatting in a circle around a puppy.

Curious, he went over and asked: 'What are you boys doing here?'

One of the boys replied: 'We found this puppy. It is a stray. We all want to take him home.'

The teacher joked: 'Oh, yes. I suppose you cannot cut it up. You all have heard the story about King Solomon, a baby and two mothers.'

The boy replied: 'We've decided that whoever comes up with the biggest lie will keep the puppy.'

The teacher was taken aback upon hearing that.

'You should not lie! Don't say you are having a contest telling lies!'

The teacher went on to lecture the boys against lying. At the end, he told them: 'When I was your age, I never told a lie.'

There was dead silence for a second. The boys then giggled and told the teacher in unison: 'All right, the puppy is yours.'

Washington's honesty

Emilio and Johnny, aged 10 and eight, were playing treasure hunt at home. Emilio placed a tube of tomato paste just beneath the doormat. That evening, their father came home earlier than usual. When he stepped on the doormat and squeezed out the tomato paste, the entire thing became very slippery. The father lost his balance and fell on the ground with a thud.

'Aw!' the father shouted.

The boys were thunderstruck, while the father stormed: 'WHO did this?'

He could not hide his fury as he rubbed his aching bottom.

Emilio stole a glance at his little brother and mumbled: 'Do you remember the story about former US president George Washington chopping down a cherry tree? Let's be brave.'

Emilio took a deep breath and went forward. 'Father, I did it.'

The father gave the boy a good spanking. Neither of the brothers was allowed to have their dinner.

The next morning, they all sat at the table for breakfast.

'I hope you've learned your lesson,' said the father.

Emilio was still upset. He replied: 'Yes. Washington was once rewarded for his honesty, but we got punished. Maybe we'd better lie today.'

The father banged on the table. 'But Washington's father did not trip over the cherry tree or break his hip.'
