The Three Sisters Hotel
Where? In the old town of Tallinn in Estonia, a few steps from historic Town Hall Square.
Romantic? Undeniably. Comprising three 14th-century houses, the hotel is a typically beautiful example of the city's Eastern European architecture, which includes slender spires, medieval squares and gothic churches.
Sounds very Hans Christian Andersen: Combining a fairytale exterior (pointy roofs, marzipan-coloured facades, tiny windows) with an up-to-date interior, the hotel is medieval and modern.
Tell us more: Furniture by Le Corbusier and Philippe Starck breathe new life into the hotel's stone walls and secret staircases, while techno stuff (flat-screen TVs, excellent IT facilities) complements the timber beams and ceiling frescoes.
Who goes there? This intriguing nest of chambers is reputedly awash with famous folk, but client confidentiality means name-dropping is a strict no-no.
Talk us through the sleeping arrangements: Each of the 23 rooms is a one-off. All are stylishly streamlined, mixing modern and French antique furnishings. The palette is soft, warm pastels. En-suite bathing facilities range from wet rooms in Brazilian slate to freestanding baths in the bedroom.
Any rooms of particular note? The Red Room, with its organza-draped bed and views of the Baltic Sea.
Is there a restaurant? Dishes at Bordoo include raw kihnu vodka salted salmon, herb-stuffed chicken and smoky ice cream.
Anything else we should know? Visitors in the summer months should be prepared for a preponderance of Disney-style parades, featuring mock friars, buxom wenches and stalls selling clutter.
