A choice location, then: Set in a natural amphitheatre of foothills and emerald paddy fields worked by water buffalo, the hotel's accommodation comprises 64 two-storey teak houses set in clusters of four.
Tell us more: Each of the Lanna-style pavilions has high ceilings, wood floors, an outdoor sala and a lush bathroom opening onto a private walled garden. There are also 16 Residence Suites with plunge pools, large living/dining areas, a kitchen and personal mae baan (live-in housekeeper).
Could it get any better? Well, the sumptuous decor - all objets trouves, Thai textiles and tropical plants set against a princely palette - is certainly worth writing home about, while the spa is a temple of delight.
Talk us through the treatments: For the super-stressed, there's shirodhara, which involves warm oil being poured onto your 'third eye' (centre of the forehead), followed by a scalp and body massage and a steam bath, while exfoliation buffs will adore the Rice and Spice Scrub and the Honey Seed Rub.
Any other treats on the agenda? Ballooning, elephant treks, golf, tennis and visits to local bazaars make life one rich tapestry. There's also a week-long Thai cooking program for those who want to perfect their prawn balls.
Talking of food ... Guests can savour the unique flavours of northern and vegetarian Thai specialties at Sala Mae Rim, an open-air eatery renowned for its sparklingly light cuisine.
Who goes there? The great and the good, according to the management, although sadly name-dropping is not part of company policy.
