Celebrating that special bond

Lamma Island
Tinnie Chow

Hong Kong Dog Rescue's Sally Anderson has been pounding the pavements for a number of years now, usually with three or more dogs in tow, going from the veterinarian's to her HK Dog Rescue Centre on Lamma Island.

Just a year old, her non-profit organisation has grown - with more and more abandoned dogs. This year, Sally has had 15 to 20 dogs with her at any given time.

Carolyn O'Neill - a photographer from San Francisco - has snapped pictures of the homeless dogs and their saviour, Sally. Their shared compassion for dogs led them to work closely together to create a series of black and white photographs of the strays.

'Our friendship has grown over time - and now we have a series put together. The purpose is to raise money and also awareness so people in Hong Kong better understand the bond between man and dog,' she says.

Tonight at a cocktail reception all prints are on sale, and a $50 donation gives you a free drink and canapes (sponsored by the Aberdeen Marina Club). All proceeds go towards Hong Kong Dog Rescue. The Forgotten exhibition runs from tonight until July 6. Cocktails served from 7-11pm, at the Karin Weber Gallery, G/F 20 Aberdeen Street, Central.
