Man guilty of raping girl

A man was convicted last night of raping a nine-year-old girl 13 times over the course of eight months.

A Court of First Instance jury took three hours to find the man, 39, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, guilty on all 13 counts of rape.

Deputy High Court Judge Alan Wright adjourned sentencing until August 30 for psychiatric and psychological reports.

'I am concerned about one portion of the accused's evidence in which he described his conduct with the girl as being 'natural conduct'. It may be of assistance to get the reports,' he said.

The court heard the man raped his victim two to three times on six different days from January to August 18 last year. The attacks took place either in his home or the home of his parents.

The court had also heard the girl, who is now 10, had known her abuser from when she was 'very small'. His wife began giving the girl private English tutorial lessons at their home in 2002.

She was first raped after Lunar New Year last year when the man took his victim to his mother's home. The last rape occurred when the man invited his victim to his parents' home to feed the goldfish.

After he twice raped the girl, he received a phone call from his wife who learned of the young girl's presence in her house. Two days later, the couple went to see a social worker on and in that interview, he admitted he had sex with the girl.
