Beijing, HK to battle air pollution together

Hong Kong will strengthen exchanges of knowledge and experience with the mainland in tackling air pollution under a new co-operation arrangement signed in Beijing yesterday.

Staff from both sides will engage in regular exchanges and will focus on 10 specific areas of interests. Joint studies will also be commissioned on policies and technologies for tackling air pollution.

Sports exchange pact with Yunnan agreed

A memorandum on sports exchange and co-operation will be signed between Hong Kong and Yunnan today. Under the deal, arrangements will be made for coaches and elite athletes to be trained in both places.

Another idea is to organise a youth sports training camp in Hong Kong and Yunnan. Hong Kong is also hoping to learn if any minority sports played in Yunnan could be extended and promoted in the city. The memorandum will be signed by the Home Affairs Bureau and the Yunnan provincial government.

Confirmed tsunami death toll up to 28

One more Hong Kong citizen has been confirmed dead from the December tsunami, bringing the toll to 28. More than a dozen Hong Kong residents are still missing and a spokesman said the government would continue to follow up the outstanding cases and provide assistance to Hong Kong residents and their families.
