Yip's Fat Choy Forever works like winner in waiting
Dennis Yip Chor-hong's lightly raced Fat Choy Forever has had his share of setbacks this term but indicated in a turf qualifying trial at Sha Tin yesterday that he might be able to salvage a win before the season ends.
The son of Desert Style travelled strongly on the bridle for Jacky Tong Chi-kit to finish second behind David Ferraris's The Collector, a German-bred gelding.
He could have won the first trial by a handsome margin if allowed more rein.
His work since May 17 trial has improved remarkably.
Yip's Sunrise Striker (rated 52) finished third in the same heat. He is open to improvement and should be watched more closely in future work.
John Moore's Saint Thomas looks like he is back to his best after winning the second heat over 1,050m on dirt.
It was a solid piece of work from Saint Thomas, who showed a good turn of foot inside the final furlong.
However, there was plenty to like about the finishing burst of Hail The Storm and Sanziro.
Douglas Whyte sat motionless aboard Hail The Storm, who was a shade disappointing last start on wet ground.
Australian import Sanziro has made a positive impression from a handful of local starts and the quality of his work has improved a lot.
He looks good enough to win a race for Danny Shum Chap-shing before too long.
And Shum took out the third heat with ever-improving Crystal.
The lack of pace was an excuse when beaten by Golden Sun on May 1 and given the way he went to the line, he looks destined to prove highly competitive when he next steps up.
Ricky Yiu Poon-fie's Rocket Win was given a quiet ride all of the way from Delpech and there was a lot to like about the way he went to the line.
His recent work has been solid and he looks in tip-top shape.
Similarly, Whyte never moved a muscle aboard Winning Sunshine, who has been out of form recently but this workout was encouraging.
