Have you got a golden ticket?

The much-anticipated Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has its gala premiere tonight and a slew of young celebrities are expected to show up to see their favourite childhood characters.

No, we won't be seeing Johnny Depp (pictured) or a very pregnant Britney Spears, but Elaine Lee Yi-lam, Amanda Strang and Janet Ma Sze-wai will have the golden ticket tucked safely in their purses.

Strang, a big fan of Johnny Depp and Roald Dahl, says she's excited to see the movie but doesn't want to be disappointed because the original movie was really good. 'Gene Wilder is so unpredictable, you never know what facial expression he'll make next. I just hope this movie is as good so it doesn't distort my passion for the story.'

It will be Lee's first experience with the story, but she says she is drawn to it because she is also a fan of Depp.

'I've never read the book because I don't like reading. Being a film student, I'm fascinated by adaptations because the movie is never what the author envisioned.'

Ma, who prefers Dahl over Depp, will show up with her 10-year-old daughter, Arisa. She had originally planned to take her five-year-old son, Kadin, but he refused to go because he's scared of Oompa Loompas after watching the original movie.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens on Thursday.
