Tomos Griffiths

Post 97 Restaurant & Bar

Sat, 8.30pm

For those looking for something musical this New Year's Eve, look no further than the Ninetysevengroup's Night of Classics with singer Tomos Griffiths.

For $580, patrons at Post 97 will be given a welcome glass of champagne, a three-course dinner and be entertained by Griffith's dulcet tones.

Taking a well-earned break from his role as the phantom in The Phantom of the Opera at London's Majestic Theatre, Griffiths is eagerly anticipating the event. 'A show like the one on New Year's Eve will be a chance for me to really go crazy with all the songs I want to sing,' says Griffiths. 'Performing in a show such as Phantom is fantastic but the show is always the same and you do not choose your material.'

Griffiths will be performing standards from Phantom and Les Miserables alongside selections from the repertoires of Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Sammy Davis Jnr and others.

'They are all songs that mean something to me, in different ways,' he says. 'There are some really lovely songs that move me to tears when I sing them, and others that I can do some great storytelling with. Then there are the songs that are just good fun, and I can have a laugh and shake my thing!'

Griffiths is currently working on a new stage production with Andrew Lloyd Webber, and is no stranger to the territory. 'My wife used to live in Hong Kong so I know it well. I love Hong Kong and the buzz of the place. One of the first things I do when I get there is go to the noodle bar on Wellington St for some king prawn dumpling soup. Hong Kong is almost like a second home.'

9 Lan Kwai Fong, $580.
