Time to be creative

Students are encouraged to display their creativity by taking part in this year's My Favourite Inventions for Quality Living Competition.

Organised by the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC), the event is part of the annual Innovation Festival, which kicks off next month and runs until early December.

There will be two categories - junior (for those aged between 10 and 17) and adult (for those

18 or above). Participants may choose to submit their entries as individuals or groups of at least two members.

Groups with one or more members aged 18 or above should enter the adult category.

Entries must be related to lifestyle improvements in one or more of these areas: clothing/garments; food processing; housing/homes, and mobility/transport. The champion of each category will receive a HK$10,000 cash prize and a trophy.

Last year, La Salle College student Denis Huen Yin-fan, who invented an artificial leg, was crowned champion in the junior category. Denis' device beat the Bluetooth security watch for the elderly invented by Chan Yik-hei, who recently started his preparatory course at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

The deadline for submissions is September 20. Details of the competition and entry forms are available at www. innotech.gov.hk

More information can be obtained from the ITC at 20/F, Wu Chung House, 213 Queen's Road East, Wan Chai.
