Storing Wine

Nicola Doyle

Gregory De'eb, general manager of Crown Wine Cellars, knows all there is to know about how to keep wine. He shares his tips.

Store wine at a consistent 13-14 degrees Celsius. This is important - temperature fluctuations are deadly for wine.

Keep wine away from white light (fluorescent/exposed bulbs). Dim orange and shaded light is the most suitable.

Ensure zero vibration - for the same reason that a domestic air-conditioning unit will permanently damage wine, so too will vibration.

Keep humidity levels at about 65 to 75 per cent. There are a number of reasons for this, from preventing corks drying out to protecting wine labels.
