Their performance impressed the judges. They made good use of the public-speaking skills they had learned, such as vocal variety and body language.

The judges had a hard time choosing the winner.

Finally, Truda Tsoi and Vimplus Tsang from Form 4A won the trophy for the Prepared Speech Contest and the Table Topics Contest respectively.

They also entered the Standard Chartered Hong Kong English Public Speaking Contest 2007.

Lee Kau Yan Memorial School and Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Malaysia

On January 23, our school took part in an 'Inter-city Online English Debating and Public Speaking Contest' with Sabah Tshung Tsin Secondary School in Malaysia.

This online event, which took place in the school

hall, brought much excitement.

It was a significant day as we experienced what education can be in our changing world.

Our guest-of-honour in Malaysia was Yee Moh Chai, minister of resource development and information technology.

In his speech, Dr Yee said, 'The two schools and two countries can now sail through the South China Sea to exchange views.'

The contest fully exhibited our initiative of learning without boundaries.

Best Content and Organisation was awarded to Francesa Chee Ying Yih of Sabah Tshung.

Outstanding Participation awards went to Alex Chow Kwong-wing, Jennier Li Ching-foon and Susan Chan Ka-yee of Lee Kau Yan Memorial School.

Lee Kau Yan Memorial School won the overall debate, and Carmen Sin took home the Best Debater prize.

Respect and learn to appreciate local culture was the message presented by Choi Chi-cheung, professor of Chinese history at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, to students at their 43rd Speech Day.

Dr Choi encouraged students to treasure their years at school as they may lead lives outside of Hong Kong one day.

He reminded them never to forget their roots.

Following his presentation, Dr Choi bestowed graduation and award certificates to students.

Then alumni were given certificates of appreciation as a token of thanks fro their dedication.

The ceremony closed with English and Putonghua solo verse presentations and a musical selection presented by the Chinese orchestra and choir.
