Record breaker eyes world stage

Judy Ngao

Name: Leung Hau-sze

School: Diocesan Girls' School

Grade: Form Three

Sport: Athletics

Achievements: Hau-sze, 16, has taken part in numerous athletic events, including the Hong Kong Athletic League and the Hong Kong Junior Age Group Athletic Meet 2007, where she broke two records.

She also took part in 200-metre events at the Asian Games in Doha and the Asian Junior Athletics Championships held in Macau last July, where she came sixth.

Soundbite: 'I started running in track events in primary school, mostly taking part in 100m and 200m events. Now, I train three times a week for three hours in Ma On Shan,' Hau-sze said.

From her coach: 'I have been her coach for the past two years. She is improving, especially in the 200m. She has broken three junior records in the 200m over the past two years - two in 2004 and one in 2006. She's close to breaking records in the 100m, hopefully by next year,' said coach Lai Chun-hung of A.S. Watson.

'She took part in the Asian Athletics Championships in 2005, coming in 10th. Being able to compete again this year is our biggest target right now.'

Ambitions: 'I hope to keep on improving so I can take part in the World Junior Athletics Championships this summer,' Hau-sze said.
