Trunki

One of the greatest pains of travelling with children is carrying travel-weary tots through endless airport corridors. It is no surprise then that the brightly coloured Trunki, a rideable suitcase for three- to six-year-olds, has sold more than 45,000 units in its first few months. Described as a 'must-have travel accessory' by Time magazine, the British-designed Trunki has proved successful not least because it was created with the needs of both parents and children in mind. Measuring 20cm x 46cm x 30.5cm, it meets air-travel hand-luggage requirements and is light (1.7kg). With a capacity of 18 litres, the interior is large enough for a change of clothes, travel toys and a teddy bear.

Constructed from the same heavy-duty but lightweight material as adult travel bags, it is robust enough to withstand years of use and abuse. Secure clips are reinforced to take rough treatment while the fun, furry plastic material inside is easy to clean. A wide, comfortable shoulder strap extends to allow the suitcase to be towed. Child-friendly features include an ergonomically designed 'seat' on top of the suitcase intended to accommodate one or two children comfortably and safely. They can also be pulled along while sitting on it. In-built front and rear stabilisers and two cute horn grips help to stop children falling off and a protective rubber rim around the edge of the case prevents fingers being caught while closing it.

The Trunki is available in two colours: bright blue (below) and neon pink. It costs HK$399 from www.kinderkinder.com.hk. See www.trunki.co.uk for more information.
