Herman Lam promoted to Microsoft general manager of HK

Microsoft has promoted Herman Lam Heung-yeung to general manager of its Hong Kong operations. Mr Lam (right), who has served as deputy general manager since last year, will report to Microsoft Greater China chief executive Timothy Chen.

Mr Lam joined Microsoft in 1996 after stints at SiS International and the JOS Group. He is credited with helping Microsoft grow its community of resellers and partners in Hong Kong to more than 2,000 companies. Bien Perez

Taobao grabs 81 per cent of mainland online auction market

Taobao.com has more than 80 per cent of the mainland online auction market, according to a survey by China IntelliConsulting Corp. The survey interviewed 4,089 people in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan and Chengdu. Canadian telecommunications equipment maker Nortel will open in Shanghai its first centre of excellence for global operations in Asia in the second half of this year.

NCS partners Suzhou Industrial Park to offer training scheme

Singapore-based NCS Group, a regional information technology and communications engineering service provider, has teamed up with Suzhou Industrial Park International Science and Technology Park on a new training programme to increase the number of qualified developers in the mainland.
