Lok Ma Chau line to open soon

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation's Lok Ma Chau spur line will probably be opened before the middle of next month, KCRC chairman Michael Tien Puk-sun said. He said the railway was just waiting for the local and mainland governments to finalise arrangements for customs clearing facilities at the new cross-border checkpoint.

Protest march protest

About 50 people protested against 'police abuse of power' in a march to police headquarters at Admiralty. Activists said police were imposing too many restrictions on the parade planned for July 1 from Causeway Bay to Central. The protesters marched from Queen's Pier to the headquarters, where they protested against the Public Order Ordinance.

Pirate discs seized

Customs officials seized 100,000 pirated discs of music, movies and overseas TV dramas from a logistics company in Kowloon Bay on Friday. The discs were being prepared for shipment overseas.

Dog-friendly eateries wanted

Hong Kong cannot claim to be an international city until dogs are allowed to join their owners at the restaurant table, Pets Central Asia said. The organisation began a campaign after being refused a licence for a dog-friendly restaurant. Chairman Peter de Krassel said Hongkongers could take birds, cats and other animals into restaurants but not dogs.

Boat parade on July 1

More than 200 fishing boats will sail into Victoria Harbour on July 1 to add to the atmosphere of the 10th anniversary of the handover. The marine parade, initiated by fishermen in Tuen Mun, will set off from Hung Hom to the Hong Kong-Macau Ferry Terminal in Sheung Wan. They will stop off near Gold Bauhinia Square to sound horns for the flag-raising ceremony.

No one won first prize in last night's draw. The numbers were 10, 24, 27, 28, 31 and 38. The extra number was 23. There were 14 tickets that each won the second prize of HK$71,390.
