Rare bottle on offer at whisky tasting

There is a very rare bottle of Scotch whisky going on auction tonight. Wan Chai's The Canny Man is hosting a tasting event for single malts from the Glenfarclas distillery, but what connoisseurs will thirst for is a rare bottle of its 1958 single malt, part of a limited edition of only 100 bottles worldwide.

For tonight's auction, bottle number 88 was brought here by George Grant (pictured). His family runs the 171-year-old distillery, one of the last independents in Scotland. He'll be at the tasting with stories of his kin. Apparently, there are only up to eight such bottles in Asia, in a Japanese private collector's vault.

The event publicist said: 'We found only two bottles currently up for auction on eBay. The current bids are at about US$7,000. Also. there are only two bars in the world where it is possible to buy this whisky by the glass, at GBP275 (HK$4,352) a dram.' To attend the tasting, it's HK$300, and you'll get to savour other Glenfarclas malts aged from 10 to 40 years. To reserve your place, call 28611935.
