The HTC TyTN II personal digital assistant/mobile phone is the successor to the handset most of
us knew as the Dopod 838Pro, which was released last year.
While the form of both devices is similar, almost everything has been upgraded under the hood of the new 3.5G PDA/phone from Taiwan-based High Tech Computer.
Well connected The HTC TyTN II features just about every connectivity option you might need worldwide. Mobile-network operator CSL, which launched the PDA/phone last month, provides its users with a city-wide High-Speed Downlink Packet Access cellular network. That link enables data downloads of up to 3.6 megabits per second (about nine times faster than regular 3G connection), which makes surfing the Web a breeze.
In addition, the device works with 3G, GPRS, Edge and GSM cellular networks.
It also supports Wi-fi and Bluetooth 2.0 and has a Global Positioning System connector, which, combined with the right mapping software, means you've no excuse for getting lost.
Office on the go The PDA/phone runs the Microsoft's Windows Mobile 6 Professional platform, which ensures instant e-mail, calendar, notes, tasks and contacts synchronisation.
It has a suite of Microsoft Office Mobile applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, so being out of the office doesn't mean you're out of the loop.
Hefty price As you would expect, the device's tilting 2.8-inch touch screen, slide-out keyboard, 3-megapixel camera and other features add to the bulk of the handset, which measures 112mm x 59mm x 19mm and weighs 190 grams with the battery.
With a HK$6,180 price tag, the HTC TyTN II is not light on your wallet either - until you try to find another wireless handset that does as many things as this one. Special subscription plans from CSL offer discounts on the device.
