Wedding bells ring for Canto-pop sweetheart and her wayward man

Canto-pop sweetheart Vivian Chow Wai-man tied the knot with her long-term boyfriend, author Joe Nieh, at a low-key home wedding yesterday - a month after he was caught kissing 21-year-old City University student Miffty Zhang.

Three photos depicting Chow in a simple wedding dress and Nieh in a black suit were sent to the media in the early evening, accompanied by a brief statement: 'We got married today, witnessed by a civil celebrant.'

But strangely, neither Chow nor Nieh was wearing a wedding ring in the photos.

The couple, who have been together for 19 years, broke up last month after Nieh was caught kissing Zhang in the Lan Kwai Fong nightclub Azure. He explained his behaviour as the result of a mid-life crisis, saying his actions were a 'terrible outcome of me showing off my charisma as a mature man, like a peacock fanning its train in a courtship display', as quoted in the Chinese media.

But a week after the break-up statement was issued, Chow and Nieh surprised the city by announcing their engagement.

The wedding was held at Chow's Happy Valley home, outside which a large media contingent was stationed in the hope of getting shots of the newly weds. But they did not appear in public. About 20 guests were invited to attend the wedding, including singer Leo Ku Kui-kei, a close friend of Chow.
