Two hurt as bus hits pedestrian

A 48-year-old pedestrian was injured when hit by a bus on Fung Shue Wo Road, Tsing Yi, at about 11am yesterday. A passenger, 60, was also injured when the driver stopped the bus suddenly because of the accident. The injured were admitted to Princess Margaret Hospital. The pedestrian was in critical condition.

Mailbox set alight in Wan Chai

A mailbox in Canal Road West, Wan Chai, was set on fire at about 6.20am. A pedestrian spotted the fire and called police. Firefighters put out the blaze, which they said was suspicious. No one was arrested over the incident.

Basketball player, 59, collapses

A 59-year-old man collapsed while playing basketball at Kwun Tong Playground at about 10.30am. He was taken to United Christian Hospital. Police said the man, who was in critical condition last night, had a medical history.

Fire prompts estate evacuation

Dozens of residents of Fu Heng Estate in Tai Po were evacuated after fire broke out in a flat at about 9.15am. Firemen put out the blaze, which was believed to have been caused by an electrical short-circuit. Firemen said the case was not suspicious. There were no reports of injury.

Arrest over attack with saw

Police arrested a 62-year-old man for attacking a 51-year-old man with a saw during a dispute about noise in a flat on Wah Ming Road, Sheung Shui, at about 2am. The victim's 41-year-old wife called police. The man was admitted to North District Hospital.

Boiling oil injures worker

A 58-year-old male kitchen worker was injured by boiling oil during his shift at a restaurant in Causeway Bay Plaza (Phase 2) at about 2.50pm. The man was taken to Ruttonjee Hospital for treatment.

Helicopter rescues hiker

Hikers called police when a woman started to feel unwell during a hike at Nam She Au, Sai Kung, at about 1pm. A Government Flying Service helicopter flew the woman to Eastern Hospital.

Suicide at Aberdeen Centre

A 45-year-old man jumped to his death at Aberdeen Centre at about 3pm. He was found lying on the podium level. Firemen certified him dead at the scene.
