Welfare group gives animal-lovers the low-down on safe sex for pets

The goal was to get some attention, and Brook Babington was certainly successful by calling her event at Club Cliq on Wednesday night Safe Sex 4 Pets. Beyond obvious jokes about the difficulty of putting a condom on a Rottweiler in heat, the chairwoman of 'Stop! Save Hong Kong's Cats & Dogs' wants to emphasise the importance of spaying and neutering your pets.

The animal welfare group's party and fund-raiser was stressing the message even as they whooped it up in risqu? style with lingerie fashion shows, pole dancers and an auction of items donated by animal-lovers (no, not that kind of animal love) such as photographer Wing Shya, actress Maggie Quigley and painter Digger T. Mesch.

'We want to raise the awareness of this message. The theme Safe Sex 4 Pets is certainly getting attention, and that's what we want,' Babington (pictured), owner of three pooches, explained. 'It's more humane this way. People usually don't see there's a problem until they get puppies and they just keep coming. Pets can't control their sex drives.'

Of course, you can also say the same about some guys who just can't resist, er, chasing cats, so to speak.

However, de-sexing your Fido has another purpose. 'It also helps the health of pets by reducing their risks of getting various cancers.'
