Pandora Hearts (anime)

Shonen

Secret organisations and conspiracies abound in Pandora Hearts, an anime based on a manga series by Jun Mochizuki which is published in anthology magazine G Fantasy.

Follow the adventures of Oz Vessalius as his carefree life takes a literal tumble into a prison known as the Abyss in a story which is heavily influenced by Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.

An English-language version of the manga will be published by Yen Press in its English anthology magazine Yen Plus starting this month. Handling anime production is Xebec, in charge of such shows as Love Hina, Shaman King and Buso Renkin. The anime started in April on Japan's TBS channel and is set for a 25-episode run.

Oz is a rich duke's only child, so enjoys all the privileges that go with that. But all the trappings can't make up for his father's perennial absence. At his coming-of-age ceremony, a group of hooded party crashers capture Oz and cast him into the Abyss.

The Abyss is a nightmarish world populated by creatures known as 'chains' who are intent on turning Oz into dinner. Luckily one of them, Alice, a chain who can take on a human form, decides to help him escape. Bound together by a contract, the pair must now unravel the mysteries behind the Abyss, Alice herself and a strange group called Pandora.
