As head of private banking in Asia for RBS Coutts, Mr Pollard will be based in Asia and will continue to attend executive committee meetings of RBS Wealth Management. He is currently managing director of Coutts in Britain.

Mr Burst is a Hong Kong veteran, having spent the past seven years in the city, during which time he has served as executive chef at the Excelsior Hotel, the private-membership Hong Kong Football Club and the Marco Polo Gateway.

Bret Stephens

Mr Stephens will be responsible for the opinion pages of the Wall Street Journal Europe and Asia, as well as the Far Eastern Economic Review and the columnists. He will remain a member of the Journal's editorial board.

Mr Choong joins Nomura from Citigroup, where he was head of Malaysia research, leading a team that repeatedly topped the rankings in the annual Institutional Investor survey. Previously, he was head of Malaysia research for BNP Peregrine.

Brian Carney

Mr Carney is relocating to London and will supervise the Journal's European opinion coverage for the print and online editions. Mr Carney has served as a member of the editorial board since 2005 and has written extensively on financial markets.
