This week wee test: powder blush

Blush can be used to change your look. Appear slimmer by applying it from the apples of the cheeks diagonally to the outer corner of the eyes. For a cutesy look, apply circles to the cheeks. Pink shades work well with fair skin, while orangy tones suit darker skin.

Missha M Signature Blossom Garden (HK$268)

The different shades of powder offer different looks from one compact, but even so the high price is off-putting. The colour does last all day, but the brush is best replaced with a round one. Tel: 2481 3380

L'Oreal Blush Delice (HK$79)

If you can open the Fort Knox-like case, ignore the badger-stripe-inducing brush (use your own), and don't mind getting powder everywhere, this is long-lasting colour that will enliven most skin tones. The mirror is a boon. Tel: 2828 1437

Maybelline Angelfit Brighten Up Blush (HK$69)

This compact fits in almost any makeup bag, and the light peach shade suits most fair complexions. It's easy to put on, which is useful, as you'll have to reapply several times throughout the day. Tel: 3101 0342

DHC Face Colour Palette (HK$184)

With an integral brush and mirror, these three shades handily suit most skin tones and can be used for different looks. But the powder's not fine enough, which makes it hard to apply evenly. Tel: 2111 0011

YSL Mini Touche Blush (HK$220)

Small enough to pop in a clutch, this natural colour is great on the apples of your cheeks and the sponge makes application easy. But the sponge is useless for sculpting cheeks, and hard to clean. Tel: 2111 0136
