The Editor's Note

Leisure travel is one of the most optimistic human endeavours. Even after the recent volcanic ash crisis people are still queuing to book vacations and to travel outside their comfort zones. Indeed travel has become so commonplace and seemingly banal that many seasoned tourists find it hard to discover destinations that speak to their inner-explorer. In this UltraTravel edition of Style magazine we offer some solutions to the ever-vexing question: 'Where can we go that we have never been before?' On offer are diving expeditions departing from the coast of Zanzibar, and a tour of Uzbekistan. And if that is not enough of a challenge, readers can live vicariously through Morgan Parker and Simon Lock. Both men, on a temporary sabbatical from their high-powered jobs in investment and fashion, are riding motorbikes from Hong Kong to the east coast of Australia over 16 stages and 10 countries, all in aid of their new charity Wheel2Wheel. Before the boys hit the road they modelled some stylish threads for Style. Along with our hit lists and agenda pages this edition provides loads of inspiration. If the volcanic eruption in Iceland taught us one thing, it's that travel plans should not be delayed lest some nasty lava nest start spewing out ash for a year or more, leaving us all to contemplate taking our vacations on Lantau.
