Janice Vidal credits prayer for helping her stay focused

Entry into Hong Kong's hall of fame can be giddyingly swift, if the story of Janice Vidal is anything to go by.

The 28-year-old Hong Kong-born singer, who released her debut album in 2005, released a greatest hits album last year. Before that, she was immortalised in wax at Madame Tussauds at the tender age of 25. She keeps impressive company there, along with Princess Diana, The Beatles and legendary Hong Kong stars Jackie Chan, Teresa Teng and Anita Mui Yim-fong.

Vidal secured her spot at the wax museum on The Peak after winning a public popularity competition it ran in 2007. She was also the star of the tourist attraction's 10th birthday celebrations on Monday. 'It [was] kind of a shock,' said the singer, who is of Chinese-Filipino-Korean heritage, referring to her wax counterpart. 'I think it's a great honour to have a mark that I can leave behind, but I hope people won't get too serious about idols and stuff like that.'

Vidal sang a special birthday song at the event along with a choir of 10-year-olds from the Baron School of Music.

Vidal, who said she attended a Christian church in Central, said that despite working on a new album and preparing for a concert in October, things hadn't been too hectic lately. 'I think praying really helps me to stay focused and to not let this chaos around me precipitate my whole being. I'm grateful that I can still do this and have fun.'
