Balbina Wong would not be where she is today without managing her time with the same purpose as she manages her leading brand management and distribution company, ImagineX Group.
As the vice-chairman and CEO of the company, she says 'timing is everything' in business and personal life.
'My appointments are very important to me, so the key thing is my staff and communication with them, especially when you are in the fashion business. Everything can be crammed in to one week, so timing is crucial.'
The Singaporean-born Wong knows what she is talking about. Her career started more than 40 years ago when she worked as a beauty consultant in her late teens. Wong came from a humble background and was determined to get ahead.
'I was very driven,' she says. 'I didn't want to ever be hungry.'
She worked her way through the ranks to become a regional sales and marketing director for major brands, such as Estee Lauder and Clinique, in Hong Kong and Australia. In the 1980s, and spurred on by her achievements in the cosmetic world, Wong became the sole distributor for Salvatore Ferragamo in Hong Kong, while the mainland and Taiwan were added in the 1990s.
