Cheaper transport to AsiaWorld-Expo

Dennis Eng

Heavily discounted Airport Express round-trip tickets to AsiaWorld-Expo will be on offer from next week whenever events are held at the exhibition venue.

The move to allow ticket holders to any event to travel there and back from either Kowloon or Hong Kong stations for HK$48 instead of HK$100, is a reflection of the venue's growing diversification from trade-only fairs to popular concerts and consumer-oriented public events.

Over the next three weeks from next Tuesday to November 29, the venue will host some one million visitors with a display of the Riverside Scene at Qingming Festival digital scroll. Staged by the Shanghai and Hong Kong governments, the display is a replica of the popular World Expo exhibit that just ended at the weekend. More than 760,000 tickets were snapped up and over 200,000 have been set aside for students and the underprivileged.

To help cope with the massive influx of visitors, the A-route airport buses will also stop at the venue with fares reduced by half for same-day return journeys. The X1 bus from Tung Chung MTR station, which takes just 12 minutes to get to venue, is also available. This proved to be a popular route during the three-day indoor petting zoo in July, AsiaWorld-Expo Management chief executive Allen Ha said.

Some of these transport arrangements were previously available, but they will now be offered whenever an event is taking place at the venue.
