Bollywood star puts down (wax) roots in HK

Over the years, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan has graced Hong Kong with his presence at film awards and charity events. Now he is here to stay - in the form of Madame Tussauds Hong Kong's first permanent Bollywood icon wax figure. At Thursday's unveiling on The Peak, revellers and special guests enjoyed a Bollywood moment when dancers performed a classic filmi dance number, draped in colourful saris. Even celebrity guest Moses Chan Ho (pictured) couldn't resist striking a pose next to Bachchan's elegant replica, alongside the bedazzled dancers.

Such an occasion compelled leaders of Hong Kong's Indian community, including consul of culture and information P. Ajithakumar and Indian Association president Mira Mahtani, to make the trip up to the museum.

'It's so personally gratifying to see our king of Shahenshah amongst other great Asian personalities,' Mahtani said, referring to one of Bachchan's films. 'When I invited the real Bachchan to Hong Kong in 2004 for the Miss India Hong Kong pageant, I was struck by his regal bearing, and this figure definitely captures that aura.'
