Terror bias

THE writer of an analysis on the Northern Ireland situation (South China Morning Post, July 27) displays bias in using the term ''guerillas'' when referring to the IRA and ''extremists'' when referring to their Loyalist opponents.

Moreover, the piece said that the security forces were trying to ''combat the guerillas''.

As any impartial commentator would know, the security forces' task in Ulster is to enforce law and order.

This means taking action when necessary against the IRA and the Loyalists.

My view on extremists, guerillas of either side is ''a plague on both their names''. Incidentally, why not refer to them equally as ''terrorists''. There is no bias there.
