Young guns to fire up Indians
A STAR-STUDDED Indian team, including exciting batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli, will lead the sub-continent's challenge for the Hong Kong Sixes.
India, who have been disappointing in the past two tournaments, are captained by Test skipper Mohammad Azharuddin and have a side capable of winning the tournament this year.
In Tendulkar and Kambli, they have two of the most aggressive young batsmen around on the world scene.
While Tendulkar has played in the past two events, this will be Kambli's first appearance out on the field.
Kambli was a part of the Indian team at the inaugural Sixes in 1992.
But little-known at the time, he was relegated to the pavilion. It will indeed be foolhardy if Azharuddin keeps Kambli out of the limelight this weekend.
The stylish left-hander has fast matured into an elegant batsman and is likely to lead the Indian charge towards their first Hong Kong Sixes title.
India's neighbours, Pakistan, have already tasted victory here, winning the 1992 tournament.
But that was with a team packed with their stars like fearsome pace duo Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis, and Javed Miandad.
This weekend, none of Pakistan's stars are on show. The team announced yesterday has a completely new-look. This is because the Pakistanis are currently hosting Australia in a three-Test series as home.
