The newly opened Pullman Lijiang Resort & Spa (above), in Yunnan province, is offering a launch deal that gives visitors booking two consecutive nights a third night for free until the end of June. Located just outside Lijiang, in the less commercial Shuhe old town, the Pullman has 51 rooms and 79 villas with private courtyards and views of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Banyan Tree was the first upmarket developer in the area when it opened the Banyan Tree Lijiang, in 2006. It was joined by the Crowne Plaza Hotel Lijiang Ancient Town in 2009, and this third international property probably reflects growing domestic disposable income more than a significant rise in international arrivals, since getting to Lijiang requires some effort (it still has a high 'when I was in ...' rating with backpackers, who 'discovered' Lijiang in the 1980s). From Hong Kong the quickest way to get there is to get yourself to Shenzhen and take a domestic flight or to fly from Hong Kong to Kunming and get a connecting 30-minute flight to Lijiang.
