American Idol's 'normal guy' winner Lee Dewyze brings his guitar to Central

As the action heats up in the latest season of television's American Idol, local fans of the talent show were treated to a concert by its 2010 champion at Central's brand new club Bisous on Thursday evening.

Armed with his guitar and a keyboardist, Lee Dewyze electrified the stage with a mix of original songs from his new album Live It Up and covers from his favourite artists, such as Ben Harper. Chatting with the crowd, he revealed that the show's former judge, Simon Cowell, was actually a nice guy despite his abrasive on-screen persona.

His best guess for the current show's winner? 'They are all up there because they are obviously talented,' Dewyze said. 'But Haley [Reinhart] is doing really well right now. I think she'll get picked.'

Hong Kong was the first stop of his first Asian tour; Bali, Taipei, Jakarta and Kuala Lumpur will follow. Those who missed the show live can catch it on Star World channel in the coming weeks.

Known to fans as the most down-to-earth of all American Idol winners, Dewyze is taking his post-Idol fame and lifestyle in his stride.

'I'm just taking it as it comes,' he said. 'If you get too caught up in industry expectations, you are setting yourself up for failure. I'm grateful for my fans' support, and they know me as who I am - just a normal guy who loves to play music.'
