Support for Tang falls

Chief Secretary Henry Tang Ying-yen's popularity rating has fallen since he made a remark about Vice-Premier Li Keqiang's visit last month. Tang said it was 'completely rubbish' that the government violated civil rights in making security arrangements during the visit.

The University of Hong Kong's public opinion programme released a poll this week. It found that support for Tang dropped 3.4 points to 46.6 out of a possible 100, since a previous survey early last month.

Tang is widely tipped as a potential candidate in the election for chief executive next year.

In the survey, almost a third - 31 per cent - of the 1,012 respondents said they had no confidence in Tang, up from 26 per cent.

The latest survey, conducted from August 29 to September 6, began just 10 days after Tang's 'rubbish' remark drew criticism from media organisations and politicians.
