Public dissatisfaction with policy address grows

The latest University of Hong Kong survey of attitudes to the policy address delivered two weeks ago found 33 per cent of respondents satisfied with it, down 10 points on a poll last week. The dissatisfaction rate rose seven points to 32 per cent. The public's rating of the policy address was 51.3 points out of 100, down 4.8 points from the previous poll. Pollster Robert Chung Ting-yiu said the positive impression of Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen's address had receded very quickly and the administration would again face the perception of being a 'weak government'. The telephone survey of 518 people took place between October 17 and 20.

Visitor arrival figures record strong growth

Visitor arrivals reached 30.4 million in the first nine months of the year, up 16.2 per cent year on year, the Tourism Board said. Of the visitors 20.4 million were from the mainland, up 23 per cent on last year; 65 per cent of these came under the individual visit scheme. The only region to see a drop in arrivals was Australasia and the South Pacific, with arrivals in September alone down 10.5 per cent to 67,953.

Push to make websites more disabled-friendly

The government launched a campaign yesterday to promote design features that make websites more accessible for people with disabilities. Enhancements include adjustable fonts and the insertion of narrations in video clips. Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Greg So Kam-leung said all government websites would conform to the international standard set by the World Wide Web Consortium by 2013, and would encourage companies to follow suit.

90 complaints received over heated Legco Q&A

The Legislative Council Secretariat has received about 90 written complaints about the conduct of Legco president Tsang Yok-sing and pan-democratic lawmakers during the heated October 13 question-and-answer session with Chief Executive Donald Tsang Yam-kuen.
