Home is sweet for some during break
University students always look forward to the winter break - a time to sleep, relax, have fun, eat tasty meals at home and spend lots of time on Weibo.
But Chen Jian, a fourth-year student at Guangzhou University, chose to stay at school although the Spring Festival is a time for family reunions on the mainland.
'This is my last year in college. I have to give up the comforts of going home to hunt for a job in Guangzhou,' he said.
'Family gatherings happen every year, but a good chance to get a job in an increasingly competitive market may be rare, and I think I should seize it.'
Of course, not every student staying on campus during the holidays is looking for a job.
'I can make full use of the school library to enrich my knowledge during the holiday,' Huang Yunlian, a second-year student at Sun Yat-sen University, said.
Hardly had the final exams finished when another group of students packed up and went travelling. Cai Miao from Guangdong Pharmaceutical University is one of them. She began her one-month trip with friends on January 14.
Nowadays, some college students don't take the traditions of Spring Festival seriously. They prefer to do what they need or like during the winter vacation rather than spend time with their family.
However, most students still can't wait to go home, especially the first-year students.
'Upon finishing my exams, I fled home. I dreamed of the home-cooked meals and love and care from my parents,' Wei Wenshuang, a first-year student at Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, said.
'I had to queue up at the railway station for hours and squeezed into a crowded train, but the comfort at home makes all the trouble of getting there worthwhile.'
